As the month of June begins and summer swings into full force, God has really put on my heart how important it is to be intentional as a family with this ‘free’ time we are blessed to have. Because of this, yesterday, our family began the simple task of memorizing a Bible passage/scripture each week together.
I debated over whether to share this idea, but decided I should because I felt like we all need more ‘truth’ and ‘good’ in our lives. I also wanted to share because many of you may be like me and lack the discipline it sometimes takes to actually stick with a plan. I am hoping some of you might join us each week and help hold me accountable.
God has put two scriptures on my heart lately that have pointed me to this plan.
“I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” ~ Psalm 119:11 NIV
“Honor God with everything you own; give him the first and the best. Your barns will burst, your wine vats will brim over.” ~ Proverbs 3:9,10 MSG
I am hoping that memorizing God’s truths will write it permanently on our hearts and keep us from sin. And, that giving our ‘firstfruits’ of summer will honor Him in a very special way. Honestly, with very few summers left with my oldest, I regret not having done this consistently & much earlier.
If you or your family would like to join us, please comment ‘YES’ below. No pressure, just friends spurring one another on in love and good deeds (Hebrews 10:24). Each Wednesday I plan to post the verse we will memorize for that week on my Facebook page ‘With All Her Heart’ and will email it for all of you who are subscribers.
And, yes, I will be praying each week for God to give us the perfect scriptures to write on our hearts!
This week’s passage is:
Proverbs 3:5,6
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.
Thank you, Father for summer. For free time to share as a family and with friends. Help us to be more intentional with this precious gift. Write on our hearts your Truth so we might not sin. May our desire be to honor you with the first of all we have, Lord. In Jesus holy name we pray. Amen.
