There was a beautiful storm at our house. Pouring through the sunshine. Clouds a pinky, blue rolling by. The best surprise came right after. A light show randomly occurred in our backyard.
Fireflies. Flitting. Flying. Lighting up the night.
I loved watching my youngest hold one on his fingertip and smile as it flickered. Taking time out from the Braves game on television paid off. To see the little, tiny lightning bug miracle God created as he held it was nothing short of amazing.
In the dark, His light is always amazing. Bright. Inspiring. Captivating.
I could not stop watching. Looking for them. When they flew away, I missed them.
They really made me stop and think. About our light. Our life.
How do people feel when we leave?
Is life brighter because we are here?
Do people smile bigger when we are near?
“You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.” ~ Matthew 5:14,15
We often hear how dark our world is. Well, why is that? Could it be because our lights have dimmed? Or, maybe, we have grown a little weary in this dark world and our lights have gone completely out.
“Light always trumps darkness. It always has, and it always will. Therefore… if you believe that your world is darkening…if you believe that the culture of your nation is growing dimmer by the year…don’t blame it on the dark! Darkness is only doing what darkness does.”
“If darkness is winning the battles, my friend, it is because light is not doing it’s job. You are light. So wake up. Wake up.”
― Andy Andrews, The Noticer Returns: Sometimes You Find Perspective, and Sometimes Perspective Finds You
Whatever the case may be, you and I have a job to do. The Master and the Creator of fireflies and you and me and all the universe has given us a direct command. To let our light shine.
“In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” ~ Matthew 5:16
