This season, what are we really seeking? With the hustle and hurry of the holidays, do we even really know? For most of us each day begins with a list – physical or mental, but one that seems to loom and beckon each of us into the whirlwind of busy.
And, busy often disappoints. It never seems to really satisfy what our hearts are really seeking. But rather it distracts and overwhelms. This world, this life, this time has a way of engulfing us with realities of never enough. It always demands more and gives less. It always seems to exhaust and exasperate. It always seems too much. The extra is overwhelming.
Too much planning. Too many commitments. And too much time spent on things rather than with those who matter most.
This Advent, perhaps we really shall find if we truly seek in lieu of sorting and shopping and sacrificing our selves for the lure of more. Perhaps this seeking brings much more for much less. Yes, what if we simply began to seek Him?
Although it seems hard to quiet ourselves and to simply be still for a bit, what if in the quiet and the still we began to really experience His gifts intended for each of us this season?
What if we could actually see Him sitting, quietly waiting to spend time with you or with me? His very Presence our very gift. The sweet nearness of our Lord and Savior this Christmas season.
And, in His Presence, we could experience His perfect peace this holiday season. And amidst the everyday hustle and bustle, He would be as near as our very breath. Perhaps in the hustle and bustle we could experience great joy as He tags along!
Yes, I believe Him when His word says if we seek Him with all of our heart we will find Him. And, I believe that He wants to spend time with us this season. That is His most precious Christmas wish. To be with you. And, with me.
And, we may not realize now, but if we try it we will find, it would be the most precious gift we could give ourselves. A little time with the One who brought all the glory and miracles of Christmas to pass.
Sweet Jesus.
Let’s try it. Let’s seek Him and find Him this season. Whatever it takes. Maybe your time is early before the dawn. Or better yet, at night by the light of the tree. Wherever you find time, He will find you.
Yes, there will still be things to do, but if we invite Him, He will weave His Presence and peace into the very center of it all. Right there with you. And, me.
Immanuel. God with us.
Draw near to Him and He will draw near to you.
Seek Him with all your heart and you will find Him.
During Advent and forever.
